It’s an honor to represent the Southern Tier in Albany. I believe in this community and the wonderful people who live and work here.
The 2011 legislative session was one of the most successful, yet at the same time challenging. The State Legislature passed an on-time and balanced budget that controls spending without increasing taxes. We also passed significant legislation to cap property taxes, grant same-sex couples the freedom to marry, strengthen ethics laws and make investments in SUNY.
As Chair of the Legislative Commission on Science and Technology, I advanced legislation to protect the Centers of Excellence at SUNY, as well as provide incentives for the commercialization of technology to grow our innovation economy.
I was also appointed by Governor Cuomo to serve on the DEC’s High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing Advisory Panel. This guarantees the Southern Tier will have a voice in establishing the regulations governing natural gas drilling.
I will continue working to improve the business climate in New York in order to help create jobs for working families. Going into the 2012 election, it’s also important that we have an independent redistricting commission and pass campaign finance reform to make elections fair and competitive.
Sincerely,
Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo
